Slowing down for the season & kicking it off with a fun little unit on The Nutcracker. We spent Monday studying Russian history, Peter Tchaikovsky & his genius works, drawing our own nutcrackers, reading aloud the picture book so they would all know the story line and seeing how they are made in a factory by true wood workmen. Then, we spent our Tuesday morning enjoying the Carolina Ballet's performance of the classical Christmas masterpiece in person downtown. We met up with a few other homeschooling/church friends to make it a party! AG ate it up & smiled ear to ear just about the entire time! AJ got a little wiggly but did well for a 2 1/2 hour long ballet and Bear was the best sport...accompanying his girls and being a true gentleman. He said his favorite part was "the end" although I would bet he could find a few moments he really did appreciate. Afterwards, they each choose their own nutcracker ornament for the tree as a keepsake.
